Tata Indicom, the CDMA brand of Tata Teleservices today announced the launch of a high speed data enabled phone that will allow both prepaid and postpaid subscribers to access high speed data on the fly. Introducing the new Samsung Corby, it’s the first high end open market handset device that will be available to all Tata Indicom customers across India.
On a rental plan of Samsung Corby 450 plan, customers will get bundled usage of 512 MB post which the customers will be charged 50 paise per MB. What’s more postpaid customers will also get aggressive voice plan where all local calls to any network will be charged at 30 paisa per minute, whereas all STD and roaming calls will be charged at only 50 paise per minute. All local and National SMS will be charged at just 50 paise per SMS.
Tata Indicoms existing CDMA prepaid subscribers also have an option to upgrade to Samsung Corby without using any recharge vouchers. Even without using the data Recharges, prepaid subscribers will be charged Rs 1 for every MB data usage.
Launching a set of CDMA phones, Samsung vice president Hendrick Lee said, “Currently, the ratio of open market sales to telecom operator sales is 20:80. We expect to change to 30:70 next year.”
Stating the focus on CDMA handset business, Lee said, “In 2007, we started the open market distribution channel with 1,000 outlets and by 2009, the number went up to 10,000.”
“We haven’t decided on local manufacturing of CDMA handsets here. I am not in a position to say what volume would make economic sense for us to manufacture here. The mobile phone plant at Noida (near New Delhi) can make one million handsets a month,” he added.
Samsung Corby Speed looks stylish with pop-style contour. Apart from that, the set sports 2.8 inch screen, music player, FM with recording. There is also a 2MP camera along with 80 MB internal memory expandable up to 8GB.
Samsung has three colour variants of fashion jackets like Yellow , White and Black . And, it is priced at Rs. 10,400.
