Nisha Shetty, Former National Athlete Financially Unable to Deposit Bail Amount

Nisha Shetty has been granted bail by a local court but she is still in jail due to lack of depository money of Rs 10, 000. However, several sports fraternity in the state comes forward to deposit the surety money.
What it could be called a national shame or government’s apathy towards sports in the country? Nisha Shetty, a former national woman athlete, arrested in connection with a sex racket, has informed the Raipur jail authority that she is incapable to pay the bail amount.
Nisha Shetty was arrested by the Raipur police for her alleged involvement in sex racket from a posh area on July 31. The former national athlete said during interrogation that deprivation forced her to become a call girl.
According to a police officer, Nisha Shetty, 26, who was arrested from a posh area of Raipur, told police during interrogation that deprivation forced her to become call girl and that she had traveled to Raipur from Mumbai to earn Rs 50, 000 from a few businessmen, who had booked her for 15 days.
“Nisha along with two other women, who were arrested July 31 from Devendra Nagar, informed police that she entered into prostitution recently to get over starvation.
Nisha Shetty had been in financial crisis since 2007 after her husband Sunil Shetty died of kidney ailments. Sunil Shetty was also a sportsman and was a national football player.
Originally belonging to Assam, Nisha told police that she had been in debt since 2007 after her husband, Sunil Shetty, who was also a sportsperson, died of kidney problems.
A silver medal winner at the 1998 National Games, she was reportedly force into prostitution to her and her five-year-old daughter’s survival.
Reports say that several sports figures in Raipur have come forward to bale out “a person from the sports fraternity” and deposit the surety amount to secure her release.
