The hottest news in the Indian motorcycle industry is that the Motorcycle King Harley Davidson is coming to India by 2010. Harley Davidson motorcycle price range start from 4 Lacs to 14 lacs approx being the top end bike.
Currently Harley Davidson does not have any existence in the Indian two wheeler market so far. The company is planning to come into India through the CBU (completely built up) method.
Since such imported bikes catch the attention of a 60% import duty, the price of Harley Davidson bikes in India would be in the range of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 14 lakh. Harley Davidson has no plans to start manufacture the motorcycle in India.
The company wishes to carry on its manufacturing in the USA, since Harley Davidson is basically an American wistfulness bike brand.
According to Harley Davidson vice-president Timothy Hoelter who has visited India in 2005, “India is among the few motorcycle markets in the world that’s growing at a fast speed and we are for sure looking at an existence in India.
Whenever we enter the Indian market, it will be through the sourcing method Harley Davidson buyers recognize our bikes to be an all-American brand and they want to buy the bikes that are manufactured in USA.”
India’s ministry of shipping, road transportation and highways had earlier discarded Harley Davidson’s application to come to India saying that India lacked prescribed emission norms for motorcycles with an engine capacity more than 500cc.
Although, after that, many international motorcycle companies have been allowed imports which do have engine capacity above 500cc, which includes 1300cc Suzuki Hayabusa in November last year.
Harley Davidson Bikes in India very soon and Bollywood will be their first target. As the movie stars are icons in India and already most of the bike companies in India are using either film stars or cricketers to endorse their bikes.
For example Hrithik Roshan and priyanka Chopra are endorsing Her Honda.
Who can be the best endorser of Harley Davidson in Bollywood.
Harley Davidson need a solid personality to endorse a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
May be Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty or Akshay Kumar – the action hero types. Among cricketers it is only MS Dhoni who can take this responsibility.
