Renowned poet, writer and critic Dilip Chitre, 71, passed away at his Pune residence Thursday, he was suffering from cancer.

Dilip Purushottam Chitre is among the one of great Indian poet, writer& Critic. He was one of the foremost Indian writers and critics to emerge in the post-Independence era. He was born in on 17 September 1938 in Baroda jn Gujarat.

After some year his family shifted to Mumbai. His father Purushottam Chitre was running a magazine named ‘Abhiruchi’.

Chitre was one of the initial and the most essential influence behind the famous ‘Little Magazine movement’ of the 1960s in Maharasthra.

His most famous works include ‘Says Tuka’, translation of works of Sant Tukaram. It was translated in many languages all over the world.

Union Minister and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said his death was an “irreparable loss” to the state.
