Billie Piper Did A Call Girl To Become Scientist: Inspires A Book & TV Series
- Billie Piper Did A Call Girl To Become Scientist.
A 34-YEAR-OLD British scientist has been outed as Belle de Jour, the prostitute whose sex blog Diary of a London Call Girl became an international best-seller and TV series She worked as a £300-an-hour prostitute while writing her thesis as a student between 2003 and 2004.
Dr Brooke Magnanti has dodged speculation for six years about who was really penning the explicit, humorous tales of charging £300 ($535) an hour for her services in order to pay for her forensic science PhD at Sheffield University in 2003.
Dr Magnanti, 34 – who works for the Bristol Initiative for Research of Child Health – revealed her identity because she feared an ex-boyfriend might expose her.
She said: “I don’t want this massive secret over me any more.” But she added: “I stand behind every word with pride.”
The Call Girl phenomenon has been widely criticised for glamourising the prostitution industry, with the Archbishop of York, Rev John Sentamu, saying there was “little mention of how destructive sex for cash can be” in Belle de Jour’s blog. It is believed she finally came clean after an ex-boyfriend threatened to go public with the information.
