- Bajaj Launched New Pulsar 135cc Bike @ Rs.51000 in India.
Two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto today launched Pulsar 135 cc bike priced at Rs 51,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The new bike, Pulsar 135 LS, is powered with a 4-valve DTS-i engine.
Bajaj Auto Chief Executive Office (Two wheeler) S Shridhar said, “The Pulsar brand has been strongly associated the sports segment in this country … The new Pulsar 135 LS leads the change in democratising the thrill of biking and accelerating the growth of sports segment in this country”.
Milind Bade, general manager (marketing), Bajaj Auto, said, “A customer does not buy a bike looking at its ‘cc’, but it’s the brand that he purchases. And while Discover and XCD are more of commuter bikes, Pulsar is a sports segment bike. By getting Pulsar in the executive segment of 135cc we are trying to get a small chunk of non-sports customers into the sports segment.”
Bade said the executive segment is 65% of the total bike market and the sports segment is about 17%, and Bajaj would want to increase the size of the pie (the sports segment).
“Sports segment will start getting re-rated and will do higher numbers than the executive segment. So our objective is that we will concentrate on two brands — Discover, which will help us gain market share and Pulsar, which will help in expanding the sports category,” Bade added.
Pulsar has already seen an 80% jump in sales over the last 6 months. The Q2 2009-10 average sales were 45,000 units per month as compared with 25000 units per month in H2 2008-09 and have reached an overall share of 50% in the sports segment.
Pulsar 135cc is powered by 4 stroke, air cooled, 4-valve, single cylinder is of carburetion type. The new pulsar 135cc develops 13.5PS of peak power at 9000rpm and 11.Nm of peak torque at 7500rpm.
It has the fuel tank capacity of 8 litres and along with a reserve of 2.5 litres (1.6 litres usable) capacity.
The new pulsar 135LS is available in 2 colors (Cocktail Wine and Midnight Black). New Pulsar 135CC comes with 5-speed transmission. Brakes Front Disc (Diameter 240 mm). EStart System available in Kick and Self.
The new Pulsar will be manufactured from the company’s Chakan plant and will have a capacity of 35,000 units per month.
